What amount of punitive damages can I get against a drunk driver?

The opportunity to get punitive damages in Virginia is somewhat limited. In my opinion is as much about politics as it is about the law. Is cap of $350,000 a suitable limit for the most greediest conduct?

Fatal Wrong-way crash caused by drunk driver.

A drunk driver going the wrong-way on I-95 at 96 miles per hour crashed into an automobile killing the driver of that car.  The fatal accident killed Robert L. Thomas and severely injured Franshaw Jackson.  Jackson suffered injuries to his heart, chest and brain.  It is hard for me to call the wreck and accident.  Drunk driving is not an accident.  It is a criminal act.  Don't drink and drive.  Drinking and driving is a deadly mix.

Alcohol was a factor in a car crash that killed four.

Alcohol was a factor in a fatal car crash that killed four and severely injured one.  The wreck occurred on Rt. 3 about six miles east of Culpeper when a 2002 Chevy Tahoe crossed into the wrong lane and hit a 2004 Toyota Corolla head-on.  The speculation is that crash was the result of a drunk driver.  The deceased are  Tyler Scott Harlow 20, Joseph Lee Sahnow 20; Tianna V. Jones 19; and James B. Cook 21.  27-year-old Howard John Steiniger of Fredericksburg was severely injured.  He was transported to Mary Washington Hospital and the transferred to VCU Medical Center in Richmond.

A non-lawyer wrote a great little book about how to hire a good lawyer. The author is Mischelle Weedman-Davis. She is the client relations manager for a personal injury lawyer in Seattle. She points out things the smart consumer should consider when choosing an attorney to handle his or her serious accident case. The things she points are should be considered whether it is an auto accident, a truck accident, medical malpractice or nursing home neglect.
